About the Role

Amazon Devices is a pioneering R&D unit responsible for designing and engineering a range of prominent devices including Kindle, Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Health Wellness products, Amazon Echo, and Astro. This position offers an exciting chance to contribute to cutting-edge innovation by developing techniques to implement Generative AI models efficiently on edge devices used in consumer products.

Key Responsibilities

• Optimize Generative AI models by quantizing, pruning, distilling, and fine-tuning them specifically for edge hardware platforms.
• Gain an in-depth understanding of Amazon’s Neural Edge Engine architecture to innovate novel optimization methods.
• Analyze deep learning workloads and recommend strategies for deploying them on the Neural Edge Engine.
• Apply foundational principles from Information Theory, Scientific Computing, Deep Learning Theory, and Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics to improve model design.
• Train custom Generative AI models that exceed current state-of-the-art benchmarks, setting the stage for production use.
• Collaborate with compiler engineers, fellow applied scientists, hardware architects, and product teams to develop superior machine learning solutions for Amazon devices.
• Represent Amazon by publishing open-source contributions and presenting research at prestigious machine learning conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, and MLSys.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience building models for business applications.
• PhD or Master’s degree with at least 4 years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
• Track record of patents or publications in reputable peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or equivalents.
• Experience in areas like algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel/distributed computing, or high-performance computing.
• Strong grasp of mathematical foundations including linear algebra and calculus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in professional software development.
• Experience in deploying machine learning models to production and managing their complete lifecycle.
