Application Engineer

About the Role

Shree Kay Vee Automation is seeking a full-time Application Engineer based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This role involves working primarily from the office and includes frequent visits to customer sites to understand and meet automation and inspection needs in industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze customer requirements for inspection and automation systems.
• Perform application studies and technical evaluations at client locations.
• Select and recommend appropriate machine vision hardware such as cameras, lenses, lighting, sensors, controllers, and inspection tools including borescopes.
• Configure and commission machine vision systems for various industrial applications.
• Develop basic vision applications addressing tasks such as presence/absence checks, defect detection, positioning and orientation verification, dimensional measurements, OCR/OCV, barcode and QR code reading, color inspection, pattern matching, and pass/fail evaluation.
• Execute camera calibration processes and optimize image capture settings.
• Facilitate integration between vision systems and industrial control devices including PLCs, sensors, actuators, and I/O interfaces.
• Conduct product demonstrations, feasibility studies, and trial runs for customers.
• Prepare detailed application documentation including reports, technical proposals, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Provide installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and post-sales support.
• Liaise with suppliers for specialized or complex application needs.
• Maintain demo equipment and comprehensive application records.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Basic understanding of industrial cameras (area scan and smart cameras), lens selection, and working distance considerations.
• Competence with lighting techniques, exposure, gain, focus adjustment, triggering, and digital I/O.
• Foundational image processing skills including blob analysis, edge detection, pattern matching, OCR/OCV, measurement tools, camera calibration, and pass/fail logic implementation.
• Proficiency with Python programming and OpenCV for image processing at a basic to intermediate level (compulsory).
• Familiarity with basic C# or C++ programming is advantageous.
• Understanding of APIs, SDKs, serial communication, TCP/IP, and Modbus TCP/PLC communication basics.
• Capability to read and comprehend sample machine-vision SDK programming examples.

Educational Background

Degrees suitable for this role include BE or B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechatronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Robotics and Automation, or Mechanical Engineering with exposure to automation and vision systems.

Experience

Applicants with 0 to 2 years of professional experience are welcome, particularly those with a strong practical aptitude and technical enthusiasm in this domain.
