Aircraft Paint Technician

Overview

Flexjet, a recognized industry leader, is seeking skilled Aircraft Paint Technicians to join our team in Peterborough, Ontario. The role focuses on safely and efficiently preparing and priming aircraft exteriors for painting, complying with project specifications and regulatory standards, including Transport Canada and FAA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Arrive at your workstation before your shift starts and check in with the department Crew Lead to receive daily assignments.
• Clarify quality and timing expectations with your Crew Lead to ensure task understanding.
• Perform assigned tasks adhering to training and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with continuous instructions from your Crew Lead.
• Complete quality checks during painting phases and obtain Crew Lead approval before moving to the next task.
• Address any work deficiencies as pointed out by the Crew Lead by seeking clarification and reworking to meet company standards.
• Follow scheduled breaks precisely and uphold professional work conduct at all times.
• Prepare aircraft surfaces including washing, sanding, and masking according to standard operating procedures.
• Apply paint mixed, blended, and matched to specifications during the painting process.
• Maintain shop tools and equipment properly and handle chemicals, sealants, and paint strippers in accordance with safety standards and PPE usage protocols.
• Accurately measure and mix cleaning solutions using calibrated measurement tools.
• Document work activities following AS9100 quality standards.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Completed secondary education is a mandatory prerequisite.
• Preferably 3 years of relevant experience in bus, boat, automotive painting, bodywork, or paint preparation transferable to aircraft paint environments.
• Physical fitness and manual dexterity suitable for accessing various aircraft areas and performing repetitive manual tasks.
• Demonstrated professionalism with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to interpret and follow directions with minimal supervision, along with problem-solving capabilities.
• Capable of working autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team, with adaptability to shifting assignments.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to production quality and safety.
• Positive mindset and eagerness to learn within a dynamic setting.
• Proficiency in English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.

Working Schedule

This full-time role requires flexibility to accommodate varying operational demands. The available shift patterns include:

• Day Shift: Monday to Thursday, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (6am to 5pm)
• Night Shift: Monday to Thursday, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (4pm to 3am)
• Weekend Shift: Friday to Monday, 4 shifts of 10 hours each (6am to 5pm)

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage of $31.23 CAD.
• Benefits package includes 6% RRSP matching, 10% deferred compensation, shift differentials for second shifts, and comprehensive health, medical, dental, and life insurance coverage to eligible employees.

Working Conditions

• The role involves regular physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting materials which may be heavy or awkward.
• Exposure to temperature fluctuations, fumes, humidity, moving machinery, and materials that can cause discomfort during work periods.
• Manual dexterity is required for repetitive tasks and extended physical effort.
• Workers must be able to lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds, with or without accommodation.
• Use of protective equipment including particle masks, goggles, gloves, head bonnets, and disposable suits is mandatory for extended durations.
• Attention demands are significant, involving concentration with changing stimuli.
• The work environment occasionally includes pressure related to deadlines, production quotas, and accuracy requirements.
