About the Role
Join DHL Global Forwarding, the air, ocean, and road freight specialist of the global DHL Group, operating across more than 220 countries. We are looking for an AFR Imports Controller based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, who will be the primary point of contact for all freight inquiries and coordinate air shipment deliveries for customers while ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the frontline liaison for customers regarding their air freight shipments.
- Coordinate with international stations and suppliers to facilitate shipments.
- Track and follow up shipments until final delivery.
- Create and confirm transport orders for shipment delivery.
- Optimize bookings per internal product guidelines.
- Prepare, review, and distribute all import documentation to relevant parties in compliance with procedures and regulations.
- Ensure correct tariff applications on shipment billings.
- Manage shipment profitability and promptly escalate issues affecting account profitability.
- Utilize IT systems to provide up-to-date shipment information.
- Respond effectively to client inquiries and manage complaints.
- Maintain operational KPIs and produce monthly KPI reports as needed.
- Develop and sustain strong relationships with customers, colleagues, and suppliers.
- Manage client requirements according to SOPs and standard work manuals.
- Support the Airfreight Import Manager to achieve departmental goals.
- Participate in sales visits and identify new business opportunities.
- Coordinate operational activities with carriers and contribute to process improvements.
- Monitor daily shipment statuses, record updates, and raise corrective actions when necessary.
- Constantly demonstrate DHL's core values in daily work.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Air Freight Logistics and operational processes.
- Strong understanding of global logistics and geographic considerations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Customer-focused attitude with timely and courteous service delivery.
- Commercial awareness and good administrative capabilities.
- Detail-oriented and results-driven approach.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer literacy.
- Basic financial knowledge including revenue, cost, and gross profit concepts.
- Availability for occasional weekend overtime if required.
- Minimum education: Grade 12; tertiary diploma preferred.
- Minimum five years of directly relevant professional experience.
