Role Overview

The 24x7 Data Centre Technician role, based at our Orbit Data Centre in Auckland, involves working rotating shifts that include nights and days. The position is full-time and permanent, exclusively available to New Zealand Permanent Residents and Citizens due to security requirements.

As part of our Data Centre team, you will perform various remote hands and frontline support tasks such as installing customer equipment, managing cabling infrastructures, and assisting with scheduled and ad hoc activities under guidance from the 24x7 Operations Manager. Comprehensive training and career development pathways will be provided to grow your technical and professional capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in and complete the Data Centre training programme.
• Support data centre batch services by operating processes, monitoring alerts, and escalating issues.
• Deliver first-level support and "hands and eyes" assistance to customers on-site.
• Adhere to health and safety protocols consistently.
• Manage data centre assets effectively and maintain excellent operational standards.
• Engage in customer-facing tasks and cultivate strong customer relationships.
• Install and manage data centre infrastructure such as power systems, IT and telecommunications devices, cabling, and server racks.
• Follow and document established and new standards related to customer changes.
• Complete assigned operational duties promptly while communicating status updates.
• Handle incident management within the data centre environment.
• Strictly comply with Datacom's security policies.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying efficiencies, service enhancements, and innovative working methods.

Candidate Requirements

• Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule including night and day shifts.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
• Competence in troubleshooting customer and technical problems.
• Capable of remaining composed under pressure.
• Comfortable working at heights up to 4 meters.
• Ability to execute repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Previous IT experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
