Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Associate Technical Consultant specializing as a Water Engineer to join our expanding Water team in Saudi Arabia. This senior technical leadership position focuses on managing and executing municipal, industrial, and energy-sector water projects across regions including the UK, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

The incumbent will provide expert process engineering leadership throughout all project stages, from feasibility and concept development through FEED, detailed design, commissioning support, and operational enhancement initiatives. The role presents opportunities to work on a wide range of water-related projects such as wastewater, desalination, water reuse, and industrial water treatment supporting various sectors including energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure, and utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering efforts for water, wastewater, desalination, water reuse, and industrial water treatment projects.
  • Provide technical guidance during all project phases: concept, feasibility, Pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design.
  • Develop and review critical engineering documents, including Process Design Basis, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, mass and energy balances, and hydraulic calculations.
  • Conduct technology assessments, process selections, and option evaluations.
  • Offer technical support and troubleshooting assistance for operational facilities.
  • Perform technical assurance reviews and independent checks to ensure adherence to client standards and quality.
  • Manage projects to be delivered safely, timely, within budget, and meeting quality requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control domains.
  • Support project managers with planning, resource management, and risk mitigation.
  • Participate actively in client workshops, design reviews, HAZOPs, technical reviews, and value engineering meetings.
  • Engage in commissioning planning and operational readiness activities as needed.
  • Build and nurture strong client relationships by providing reliable technical consultation and acting as a key technical contact.
  • Present technical solutions and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Support technical due diligence, owner's engineer, and independent engineering evaluations.
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences.
  • Contribute to business development by preparing technical input for proposals, bids, tenders, and frameworks.
  • Innovate solutions that address client challenges and add value.
  • Assist in market engagement and strategic growth efforts in the Water sector.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers and contribute to competency development and succession planning within the team.
  • Provide technical guidance, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing to enhance team expertise.

Required Experience and Expertise

  • Extensive process engineering experience within the water sector.
  • Proven track record managing complex water and wastewater projects successfully.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering groups.
  • Strong skills in client and stakeholder management.
  • Expertise in preparing and reviewing detailed process engineering documents.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in industrial water treatment for the energy, mining, chemicals, or manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with desalination and water reuse technologies.
  • Technical due diligence, owner's engineer, or independent engineering experience.
  • Involvement in bids and business development activities.
  • Willingness to travel for site-based work, including extended stays.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or progressing towards chartership through IChemE or an equivalent professional body.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in water, wastewater, environmental, or process engineering are advantageous.
