Role Overview

As a Plumber within the Facilities team, you will maintain and repair plumbing and hydraulic systems throughout Melbourne CBD's Scape student residences to ensure safety and comfort for residents. Collaborating closely with Facilities Managers, your responsibilities will include preventive care, fault resolution, and system upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance for plumbing facilities, identifying and repairing faulty pipes, taps, and associated components.
• Maintain and service both gas and electric hot water units, troubleshoot water supply and waste systems, including leaks and blockages.
• Perform CCTV drain inspections and respond to plumbing emergencies, including participation in after-hours on-call rotations.
• Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems and equipment; handle installation, testing, and commissioning of upgrades or new equipment for capital works or modifications.
• Ensure compliance with AS/NZS 3500 plumbing and drainage standards and state regulations during all plumbing activities.
• Keep detailed maintenance records, inspection logs, and updated hydraulic schematics.
• Collaborate with Facilities Managers and other trade professionals to coordinate work schedules minimizing resident disruptions.
• Engage in a 7-day on-call roster, providing timely reactions to urgent repair needs beyond normal hours.
• Identify and advise on opportunities to enhance water efficiency via upgrades or fixture improvements.

Qualifications and Skills

• Possession of a valid government-issued Plumbing, Drainage, and Gas Fitting Licence (requirements depending on state/territory).
• Holding a current Construction Induction Card (White Card) for work on construction sites.
• Proven experience in plumbing services and competent use and maintenance of related power tools and equipment.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic principles, water distribution networks, and waste systems.
• Ability to interpret hydraulic schematics, as-built drawings, and technical manuals proficiently.
• Excellent attention to detail, with an ability to work independently and follow instructions precisely.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with multiple teams efficiently.
• Additional certifications such as for high-risk work, working at heights, or confined space operation are beneficial.
• Current First Aid Certificate and a valid driver’s licence.
• Successful candidates must agree to undergo a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
