Within SLR, our Asia Pacific Hydrology and Hydrogeology (H&H) Technical Discipline consists of over 60 professionals. Core to our business, we focus on expanding services with Tier 1 clients and developing expertise in infrastructure and energy sectors, including renewables and expert advisory services.

Position and Location

This role is based in Brisbane or Townsville offices in Queensland, reporting to the Queensland Surface Water State Lead. It offers an opportunity to lead water resource and hydraulic modelling projects across diverse industries, working collaboratively with experienced teams across multiple Australian cities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver surface water environmental and design projects for a variety of industries.
• Apply hydrologic, hydraulic, and water balance modelling using relevant software tools.
• Support staff with model development and ensure timely, high-quality report delivery for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with clients and internal teams, fostering collaboration.
• Contribute to business development by transforming prospects into proposals and identifying client value propositions.
• Provide expert advice on best practices and principles to team members and project managers.
• Conduct high-level project reviews with strong commercial insight.

Experience and Qualifications

• Ideal candidates have 10 to 15+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably within consultancy.
• Possess an engineering degree and appropriate registration or qualifications to achieve Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status within six months of employment.
• Extensive proficiency in hydraulic modelling, especially two-dimensional hydraulic modelling with TUFLOW software.
• Experience in hydrologic modelling and assessments using RORB, WBNM and XP RAFTS, with strong knowledge of Australian Rainfall and Runoff guidelines.
• Familiarity with related surface water engineering disciplines such as stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, water quality, flood risk, and site water management.
• Experience with water-related structure design and assessment, including dams, levees, and diversions.
• Knowledge of MUSIC or GoldSim modelling is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Experience with environmental impact statement (EIS)/environmental assessment (EA) approvals and knowledge of Queensland resource legislation is desirable.
• Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects through all stages effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills, self-driven work ethic, and experience mentoring or supervising staff are valued.
• Proven success in cultivating and sustaining client relationships.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
