Youth Worker - Hamilton

About the Role

Join our dedicated team at the Hamilton Youth Justice site where we adopt a fresh, collaborative approach to supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau. As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, you will help shape positive outcomes, building meaningful connections with young people and supporting them in reaching their aspirations. Your efforts will include coordinating with social workers and partner agencies to create promising pathways for their futures.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage closely with whānau and other individuals involved in the rangatahi's care plans.
• Develop and maintain supportive relationships with young people, fostering trust and respect.
• Collaborate with social workers to implement Care Standards and work towards positive outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.
• Participate in multi-agency meetings involving police, education, health, and community stakeholders.
• Manage and arrange appointments for rangatahi, including accompanying them as needed.
• Organize and take part in activity-based and recreational programs with rangatahi.
• Support rangatahi in acquiring independence skills such as shopping and budgeting.
• Offer assistance during Family Group Conferences and support visits related to mental health and education services.
• Carry out administrative duties and maintain accurate records to support team operations.
• Attend home visits or meetings with whānau as required.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and understanding of Tikanga.
• Possession of a current, clean New Zealand driver’s licence (consideration given to historic convictions on a case-by-case basis).
• Familiarity with Oranga Tamariki and its organisational values.
• Experience working with traumatised young people.
• Appreciation of cross-cultural practices, especially knowledge of Tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ cultures.
