About Oranga Tamariki - Ministry for Children
Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is dedicated to placing tamariki (children) and rangatahi (youth) at the center of its efforts. Role Overview
We are seeking a permanent full-time Workplace Administrator to join the Care & Protection team at our Westgate Site. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and communities by supporting administrative functions within the Social Work team. You will help enhance your administration skills in a supportive and friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Social Work staff with administrative tasks, including financial planning, data gathering, and scheduling.
- Coordinate communication and liaison with vendors, casual employees, and various stakeholders.
- Engage respectfully with diverse cultural groups and individuals from different backgrounds.
- Manage reception duties such as answering telephones, booking meeting rooms, and assisting visitors.
- Organize welcomes or whakatau ceremonies for new team members and whānau when necessary.
- Respond calmly and professionally during critical or urgent situations.
Required Qualities and Skills
- Possession of a full, clean New Zealand driver's license.
- Commitment to supporting team Health and Safety protocols.
- Proficiency in computer applications and a strong IT aptitude.
- Administrative competencies including accurate typing, report preparation, and responding to site operational needs.
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of Tikanga Māori principles.
- Dedication to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Effective time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities adaptable to varied audiences.
- Awareness and respect for cross-cultural practices, especially related to tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ cultures.

The position offers a competitive step-based salary package ranging from $57,096 to $62,773 annually, depending on experience.
