About the Role
Oranga Tamariki is offering new, permanent Allied Support Worker positions in Rotorua to provide dependable operational assistance to frontline Social Work teams amid ongoing service demands. These roles are designed to be a stable and integral part of the workforce, enhancing team capacity and continuity.
Allied Support Workers operate under the guidance of qualified Social Workers and supervisors, aiming to improve outcomes for tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau by allowing Social Workers to concentrate on statutory duties and professional responsibilities. The role is non-regulated and does not involve social work activities or managing individual caseloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering on-demand support across the site based on daily team operational requirements.
- Assisting Social Workers with documentation by entering case notes and other data into the CYRAS case management system and other platforms.
- Safely transporting tamariki and rangatahi to various appointments, schools, and sports activities.
- Helping with the organizational and administrative aspects of Family Group Conferences.
- Providing support during care periods when tamariki and rangatahi are out of school or awaiting placement.
- Coordinating administrative arrangements for programme transitions or placements.
- Aiding children and youth in settling or returning to school after absences.
- Conducting supervised visits including driving clients, supervising contact, and documenting visit notes, with some weekend and after-hours involvement.
- Maintaining cooperative relationships with internal teams and external partners.
Experience and Skills
The position demands high trust, emotional resilience, sound judgement, and reliability. Desired skills and experiences include:
- Background in community service roles supporting individuals in need.
- Experience working with Māori and/or Pasifika communities.
- Ability to handle emotionally sensitive circumstances empathetically.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with peers and stakeholders.
- Ability to stay composed and sustain performance under pressure.
- Familiarity with tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures, and respect for cross-cultural practices.
- Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Commitment to upholding Te Tiriti ō Waitangi in practical settings.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A recognised Social Services qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
- A clean, current full driver’s licence is essential, with the willingness to operate Ministry vehicles; historic convictions will be evaluated individually.
