Role Overview

As a Workflow Engineer at ShopOS, you will design and manage modular, node-based automation workflows that integrate multiple ecommerce components such as catalog, creative tools, personalization engines, and fulfillment systems. Beyond building, you will maintain, improve, debug, and document these workflows to ensure resilience and scalability. Collaborating closely with product, AI, and design teams, your work will transform business rules into reusable, no-code/low-code automations delivering significant value to users.

Key Responsibilities

• Create node-based, rule-driven workflows supporting ecommerce operations and AI interactions.
• Develop modular workflow components for composing reusable logic flows.
• Integrate with various APIs, data systems, and third-party services including Shopify, Stripe, and Zapier.
• Troubleshoot and repair live workflows, including those developed by others.
• Refactor and enhance existing workflows for improved reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct regular audits to identify fragile or redundant workflows before issues arise.
• Produce comprehensive documentation covering functionality, dependencies, failure modes, and remediation steps.
• Implement admin interfaces and monitoring tools to assess workflow health and performance.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to ensure workflows are user-friendly, testable, and transparent.
• Work alongside AI/ML teams to incorporate intelligence into decision-making points.
• Take ownership of critical workflows from end to end, such as onboarding, content pipelines, and personalization loops.
• Innovate creative, uncommon solutions to operational challenges rather than standard fixes.

Required Qualifications

• Background in Computer Science with strong programming fundamentals.
• Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript development.
• Experience using Python for scripting and automation tasks.
• Practical experience with node-based or visual workflow builders such as Make, n8n, or Zapier.
• Familiarity with design and UI tools including Figma, Weavy, and ComfyUI.
• Ability to conceptualize problems as frameworks and systems rather than one-off fixes.
• Strong debugging skills capable of tracing errors across multiple linked systems.
• Comfortable integrating with APIs using REST or GraphQL and connecting external services.
• 2 to 4 years of relevant experience; junior CS graduates with solid fundamentals are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills

• In-depth knowledge of workflow engines, state machines, or rule engines.
• Experience with event-driven systems and queueing technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
• Working familiarity with databases such as Postgres and Redis.
• Understanding of infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Docker, Terraform), monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to other low-code/no-code workflow platforms including Temporal, Langchain, Camunda, or Retool.
• Knowledge of AI and large language model systems integration with workflows involving prompt generation and chaining.
• Previous experience in commerce, logistics, or automation of creative operations.
• Experience building internal operational tools or dashboards in dynamic startup environments.
• Acquaintance with configuration-driven or metadata-driven engineering approaches.
