Role Overview
The Technical Manager for Workers’ Compensation is tasked with guaranteeing that claim decisions are just, grounded in evidence, and aligned with state legislation and regulations for each case. This role involves guiding Case Managers in correctly interpreting workers’ compensation laws and organisational policies to ensure consistent, lawful claim management that supports efficient outcomes and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain comprehensive understanding of self-insurance and business requirements for effective claim management within the Woolworths account.
- Provide expert technical guidance to Case Managers to facilitate accurate, timely claim decisions conforming to all legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Support handling complex claims by dissecting legal ramifications and proposing solutions.
- Decipher complicated legal terms to make them accessible and applicable for Case Managers related to individual claims.
- Promote uniformity and high-quality in claims decisions via regular case evaluations and supervision of key entitlement rulings.
- Operate within predefined claim approval limits while consistently achieving performance objectives.
- Maintain detailed and precise documentation substantiating decisions and supporting audits.
- Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from injured employees, supervisors, and stakeholders, ensuring excellent customer experience.
- Advocate for a customer-centric approach in all claims operations, treating all involved parties with understanding, respect, and openness.
- Provide guidance on managing difficult stakeholder communications and fostering clear, professional dialogue.
- Assist with resolving escalated complaints and disputes ensuring timely, proper resolutions.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with all relevant workers’ compensation legislation, self-insurance mandates, and company policies.
- Diligently record and update claims data and notes in Assure software to meet decision-making and compliance requirements.
- Stay abreast of legislative and regulatory changes and disseminate updates effectively to the team.
- Identify claim-related risks and cooperate on strategies to mitigate these.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive team culture that encourages open communication, shared knowledge, and collective responsibility.
- Share specialized knowledge through coaching and training Case Managers on current laws and best practices in claim management, customer service, and compliance.
- Review and audit claims documentation produced by Case Managers, providing constructive feedback aimed at enhancing compliance and claims results.
- Engage actively in team meetings, training sessions, and initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Desirable qualification or certification in health or business-related disciplines.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the capability to analyze complex information and deliver clear, evidence-supported advice.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication talents with proficiency in influencing and engaging across various hierarchy levels.
- Demonstrated leadership with skills in coaching and mentoring team members.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- At least three years of experience in workers’ compensation case management, ideally within a self-insured context.
- Prior experience in a technical support capacity for claims management teams.
- Experience managing complex claims and interpreting applicable legislation and regulatory environments.
