Job description
Role Overview
This position involves climbing and maintaining large offshore wind turbines. Key tasks include inspecting gearboxes, adjusting blade pitch, lubricating yaw drives, and maintaining hydraulic brakes at significant heights. The role requires hands-on troubleshooting of pitch and converter issues directly from the nacelle and ensuring torque specifications for foundation bolts are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and emergency maintenance on utility-scale wind turbines offshore.
- Perform scheduled inspections such as gearbox checks and blade pitch calibrations.
- Lubricate yaw drives and carry out hydraulic brake upkeep at height.
- Diagnose and resolve faults involving pitch mechanisms and converters.
- Tighten foundation bolts to precise torque requirements.
- Replace worn components including slip rings and filters.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities within the asset management system.
- Work with control rooms to coordinate lifts and power isolations before starting work.
Requirements and Certifications
- Valid GWO certifications for Working at Heights and Sea Survival.
- Proficiency in rope-access techniques for safe turbine access.
- Offshore medical clearance confirming fitness for work at sea.
- Comfort and capability working at heights up to 90 meters over open water in variable weather.
Working Conditions
This role operates on two-week rotations from a service operations vessel and includes a mix of scheduled preventive maintenance alongside urgent call-out responses triggered by SCADA system alarms.
