Role Overview
The Virtual Design Coordinator is responsible for managing BIM/VDC activities on ongoing projects, ensuring that models and related deliverables are precise, thoroughly coordinated, and ready for construction use. This role serves as the central communication point linking VDC teams, project management, on-site leadership, and trade partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate BIM/VDC efforts across various active projects.
- Serve as the primary intermediary between VDC, project managers, engineers, field teams, and subcontractors.
- Guarantee accuracy and synchronization of models with the latest design and site conditions.
- Control model quality focusing on constructability, completeness, and version management.
- Facilitate clash detection procedures and drive timely resolution of coordination conflicts.
- Manage the creation of shop and installation drawings alongside other project deliverables.
- Ensure accurate issuance of deliverables aligned with project timelines.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to other VDC coordinators and modelers.
- Review outputs for consistency, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Lead and participate in coordination/project meetings; prepare model updates and views.
- Track action items, responsibilities, and deadlines.
- Optimize VDC workflows, file management, and internal protocols.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Support the integration of innovative technologies like 3D scanning and reality capture through training.
- Evaluate tools for continuous improvement and respond to field and design coordination challenges.
- Ensure model outputs align with field execution requirements.

Education and Skill Set
- Completion of a college program in Mechanical or CAD CAM Technology with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- Preference given to candidates with education in engineering or mechanical engineering technology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Practical experience in BIM/VDC within construction or fabrication settings.
- Expertise in Revit and Navisworks or equivalent software.
- Deep understanding of constructability, sequencing, and coordination concepts.
- Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Knowledge of document control and project workflow standards.
