Key Responsibilities

• Drive the development and implementation of classification standards specifically for unstructured data assets to ensure consistency across various business units.
• Lead data annotation and labeling initiatives for unstructured data sets to improve data recall and support artificial intelligence and machine learning projects.
• Create and execute a strategic plan to comprehensively label, tag, and classify all unstructured data within the organization, prioritizing tasks aligned with enterprise governance goals.
• Collaborate closely with cybersecurity and AI teams to enhance algorithmic recognition, analyze data misclassification, and contribute to improvements in machine learning models.
• Optimize the data annotation process by refining label sampling and review workflows and recommending improvements to the annotation platform’s functionality.
• Engage with stakeholders including business users, data vendors, and engineers to implement data solutions leveraging cutting-edge technologies and best practices.
• Manage the full lifecycle of unstructured data governance activities, such as data registration, classification, tagging, quality assurance, and lifecycle management, ensuring compliance with GIC’s governance and architecture standards.
• Provide leadership and guidance to business data owners, data stewards, and central data teams to meet both current and future data governance needs while mentoring junior team members to enhance stewardship capabilities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
• Seven to ten years of experience in data governance or related management roles with a specialization in unstructured data and enterprise-level initiatives.
• Demonstrated proficiency in data classification, taxonomy design, and labeling, including collaboration with AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity teams.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, comprehensive data lifecycle management, and quality framework principles.
• Hands-on experience using data annotation tools and understanding of AI/ML process flows.
• Excellent stakeholder management abilities with cross-team collaboration experience and capability to translate complex technical details into business outcomes.
• Proven leadership in managing teams, fostering staff development, and driving improvements in processes and technology platforms.
• Outstanding analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

• Background in financial or investment organizations with complex data ecosystems.
• Strong passion for enhancing data governance maturity and promoting data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
