About the Role

As a Vegetation Control Officer, you will play an essential role in managing vegetation along our rail network in North Queensland, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate herbicide application equipment such as spray trucks to treat vegetation on tracks, station areas, sidings, and related infrastructure according to scheduled programs.
- Conduct routine maintenance on spraying machinery including pumps and plumbing; organize servicing and repairs to maintain equipment functionality.
- Manage herbicide and equipment inventory at the depot, ensuring safe storage and adherence to safety and audit standards, maintaining a clean and compliant environment.
- Carry out vegetation inspections within designated network areas, support preparation of the annual herbicide spraying schedule, perform audits of specified plant species, and monitor treatment effectiveness.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience with herbicide use is advantageous.
- Possession of a Medium Rigid (MR) vehicle licence is preferred.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel extensively across regional North, Far North, and West Queensland, including overnight stays.
- Availability for occasional night shifts and ability to work independently within a small team of two.
Work Hours and Salary Details
- Work schedule for regional duties typically involves nine days on with five days off (Tuesday to Wednesday), including weekends, offering a working away allowance and weekend/overtime penalty rates.
- Townsville roster operates on a nine-day fortnight (Monday to Friday) with standard 8.5-hour workdays plus potential overtime and night shifts.
- This permanent role has a starting base salary of $84,671 plus 12.75% superannuation, supplemented by shift penalties and allowances, with potential total earnings exceeding $110,000 annually under current roster conditions.
- Overtime allowance is subject to business approval and fatigue management policies.
