About the Role
USIC, a national leader in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services, is seeking dedicated Utility Locators to join their team in Logan, WV. The company performs over 84 million locates annually across telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities, serving more than 1,400 clients nationwide. As a Utility Locator, you will work independently outdoors, accurately identifying and marking underground utilities to protect critical infrastructure and public safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and precisely locate underground utilities including telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer lines.
- Conduct thorough searches in assigned areas, mark utility locations accurately, document findings, and photograph each locate.
- Utilize advanced technology and company-provided vehicles to deliver quality service efficiently.
- Meet a 48-hour turnaround time for many locates, requiring work on weekdays, post-holiday days, some weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts including nights when business needs demand.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is beneficial.
- Comfort and proficiency in using technology and company-provided equipment.
- Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call responsibilities.
- Successful completion of a drug screening as this is a safety-sensitive position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish colors used for wiring and utility markings.
- Competence in reading, interpreting locate tickets, maps, and prints.
- Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
