About the Role
USIC, a nationally recognized leader in underground infrastructure services, is seeking dedicated Utility Locators for full-time, daytime positions based in Skokie, IL. This role involves independent fieldwork locating underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems. No prior experience is required as extensive training is provided, but experienced candidates are welcome to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct accurate and safe locating of underground utilities within designated areas.
- Mark underground utility locations precisely and document each locate thoroughly, including necessary paperwork and photographs.
- Operate company-provided vehicle to travel to work sites independently.
- Utilize advanced ticket and claims management systems to ensure clear and comprehensive mark-out services at excavation sites.
- Work with a 48-hour turnaround time on various locate requests, requiring availability for work after holidays and some weekends.
- Commit to overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call duties including nights and weekends based on business needs.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; previous outdoor work experience is advantageous.
- Comfortable using technology and proficient with related tools.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Capability to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to distinguish colors related to wiring and underground utility marking.
- Competency in reading and interpreting locate tickets, maps, and prints.
- Clear and effective communication skills for interacting with team members, contractors, customers, and homeowners.
- Ability to pass a drug screening pertinent to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
