Overview
USIC, a leading company in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services, is seeking dedicated Utility Locators eager to work outdoors and take on independent field assignments. The company performs over 84 million utility locates annually, servicing telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities across the nation. This role focuses on protecting vital infrastructure with safety and precision while offering a stable, long-term career with advancement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and accurately locate underground utilities such as telecommunications, electrical power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer lines.
- Conduct detailed searches within assigned zones, appropriately marking utilities, documenting findings thoroughly, and capturing photographic evidence of each locate.
- Manage work using company-provided vehicles and advanced ticket and claims management technology to ensure clear and comprehensive mark-outs for excavators and property owners.
Working Conditions and Schedule
Positions are full-time daytime roles, with a 48-hour response requirement on many tasks. Candidates must be prepared to work overtime, weekend shifts, on-call hours including nights and holidays depending on operational demands.

Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions; prior outdoor work experience is beneficial.
- Comfortable utilizing modern technology tools related to the role.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as necessary.
- Ability to pass mandatory drug screening as this is a safety-sensitive position.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, as well as to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Capacity to differentiate utility color codes for identification purposes.
- Competence in reading and interpreting utility tickets, maps, and technical prints.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
