Job description
Position Overview
Become an integral member of the Wellington Transport Operations Centre's dynamic and efficient team, supporting smooth travel across the regional network. This fixed-term role concluding in June 2027 is situated in Johnsonville, Wellington, and operates on a 7-day rotating roster with shifts spanning from 5:45am to 10:15pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and actively manage traffic systems, mainly SCATS and traffic signals, to enhance network safety and efficiency.
- Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, technical faults, and other operational issues affecting network assets.
- Coordinate with contractors and escalate urgent matters to emergency services and other relevant teams.
- Identify and resolve traffic signal problems, utilizing CCTV and traffic management software to optimize traffic flow.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring prior experience working within technical or systems-based environments and possess a foundational understanding of traffic operations and associated safety concerns. Familiarity with information technology, legislative frameworks concerning traffic, and Microsoft Office applications is highly beneficial. Experience with shift rotations on a rolling roster is preferred, alongside a willingness to embrace Te Ao Māori principles, including tikanga and Te Reo Māori, and an appreciation of the Treaty of Waitangi's application in public service.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass a Police Vetting check.
- Possession of a current full New Zealand driver's license or equivalent.
- Prior exposure to operating traffic signal systems (SCATS) and CCTV is advantageous.
- Holding a relevant or recognized qualification is considered a plus.
