Role Overview
This position involves managing and directing traffic flow in and around construction zones or road maintenance sites to safeguard both public and worker safety. Duties include deploying and removing traffic control devices like signs, cones, and barricades, signaling motorists with hand signals and signs, and maintaining clear communication with team members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and remove traffic safety devices to redirect vehicles safely around work areas.
- Control traffic flow efficiently using stop/slow paddles.
- Communicate with coworkers using two-way radios for coordination.
- Physically capable of standing/walking and using hands continuously for up to ten hours daily.
- Lift and maneuver equipment weighing over 50 pounds.
- Operate company vehicles to transport equipment between job sites.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance checks on vehicles to ensure operational safety.
- Work exposed to outdoor weather, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and noise levels typically ranging from moderate to loud.
- Comply with all company policies and undertake any additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of background checks including driving records.
- Pass mandatory drug screening and meet all federal Department of Transportation regulations.
- Wearing appropriate safety gear such as safety-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests is required.
- Proficiency in operating two-way communication radios.
- Capability and willingness to work in varied weather and traffic conditions.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with contractors and internal teams while providing excellent customer service.
- Team-oriented mindset with dependable attendance, reliable transportation, and a strong commitment to work.
- Completion of the ATSSA Flagger training and company-provided Defensive Driver training is mandatory.
- Open to statewide travel including overnight stays, and flexible working hours, including nights and weekends as project demands.
- Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.
