Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger ensures safe and efficient traffic movement around construction zones, road repair sites, and other work areas. Responsibilities include installing and removing traffic control signs, cones, and barricades, and employing hand signals along with other traffic signaling devices to direct drivers securely through or around work zones. Candidates must demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, stamina for extended outdoor work in varying weather, and the ability to remain standing for long hours.

Key Duties

  • Install and remove traffic control signage and equipment to guide vehicles safely around work locations.
  • Use stop/slow paddles to regulate vehicle flow effectively.
  • Maintain communication with team members via two-way radios.
  • Frequently stand, walk, and reach using hands and arms throughout shifts lasting up to 10 hours.
  • Handle heavy lifting and moving of objects exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Operate company vehicles transporting traffic control devices to job sites.
  • Conduct regular safety and maintenance checks on vehicles.
  • Work in outdoor conditions exposed to weather, machinery, traffic, fumes, and varying noise levels.
  • Follow all company policies and participate in assigned duties.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Successful clearance of background checks, including motor vehicle record evaluation.
  • Pass a drug screening and fulfill federal Department of Transportation standards.
  • Comply with safety gear guidelines, including steel-toe boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and vests.
  • Experience operating two-way radios.
  • Adaptability to diverse weather conditions and traffic environments.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for coordination with contractors and team members, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Ability to function well within team settings.
  • Demonstrate reliability with good attendance and personal transportation, supported by a dedicated work ethic.
  • Completion of ATSSA Flagger certification and company-sponsored Defensive Driver training required.
  • Willingness to travel across the state with occasional overnight stays and availability for night and weekend projects.
  • Must participate in a rotating on-call duty schedule.
