Role Overview
The Traffic Control Flagger plays an essential role in safely guiding traffic around construction zones and road maintenance areas. Responsibilities include installing and removing traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to protect both workers and the public. The position requires directing traffic flow with hand signals and paddles, communicating effectively with team members, and enduring various outdoor working conditions.
Primary Duties
- Install and remove traffic management equipment such as signs and cones to reroute traffic safely.
- Utilize stop/slow paddles to control and direct vehicle movement efficiently.
- Maintain communication with crew through two-way radios to ensure coordination.
- Stand, walk, and reach frequently for long durations, up to ten hours daily.
- Lift and handle items weighing over 50 pounds as part of setup and teardown tasks.
- Operate company vehicles to transport traffic control gear to project sites.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles.
- Work consistently in outdoor environments exposed to weather, equipment movement, traffic, and noise.
- Adhere strictly to company policies and carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.
- Successfully clear background checks, drug tests, and meet Federal DOT standards.
- Wear required safety gear including steel-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests.
- Proficient in using two-way radios for effective communication.
- Able to work outdoors in varied weather and traffic conditions.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork skills and excellent customer service.
- Commit to excellent attendance, punctuality, and responsible transportation.
- Complete ATSSA Flagger certification and company defensive driving training.
- Willingness to travel occasionally with overnight stays, and work night or weekend shifts when necessary.
