Position Overview
The Total Rewards Director will spearhead the creation, oversight, and continual refinement of AutoStore’s worldwide rewards programs to maintain competitiveness, equity, scalability, and strategic alignment with organizational goals. The role encompasses managing compensation frameworks, performance reward schemes, annual merit processes, and benefits packages while supporting labor market analysis and economic assessments.
This position holds full accountability for governance of executive compensation, including designing and managing executive reward programs, long- and short-term incentives, and matters at the Board level. Serving as a key advisor to the CHRO, CFO, CEO, and Remuneration Committee (RemCo), the director provides market data, analytical insights, recommendations, and governance assistance to ensure executive incentives align with corporate strategy, shareholder expectations, and legal compliance.
The successful candidate will enhance AutoStore’s capabilities to attract, retain, deploy, and motivate talent in a manner that supports sustainable growth and disciplined operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the design, governance, and administration of executive pay programs including base salaries, annual incentives, long-term incentives, and retention packages.
- Collaborate closely with CHRO, CFO, and CEO to align executive reward strategies with business objectives, market standards, and shareholder priorities.
- Act as primary HR representative to the Remuneration Committee by preparing meeting materials, analyses, recommendations, and governance documentation.
- Perform market benchmarking on executive compensation, delivering insights on trends, investor expectations, and governance best practices.
- Support annual executive compensation reviews, incentive program outcomes, and executive contractual arrangements.
- Ensure strict adherence to executive compensation regulation, disclosure obligations, and governance benchmarks.
- Oversee global compensation and benefits frameworks including job architecture development and governance.
- Conduct salary benchmarking, enforce pay structures, and ensure internal equity and competitive positioning.
- Manage incentive, bonus, and performance-related rewards systems.
- Handle annual merit increase processes effectively.
- Partner with Finance, HR Business Partners, and leadership for workforce economics and planning purposes.
- Maintain compliance with compensation governance and legal requirements.
- Lead strategies pertaining to employee well-being and total rewards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 to 12 years of professional experience in compensation, benefits, total rewards, or workforce strategy roles within global business environments.
- Proven expertise in supporting Board-level and Remuneration Committee compensation discussions.
- In-depth knowledge of executive compensation design, including short- and long-term incentive schemes.
- Experience performing executive pay benchmarking and market trend analysis.
- Familiarity with compensation governance and disclosure obligations for publicly traded companies.
- Ability to develop and deliver complex compensation analyses and present recommendations to senior executives and Board-level stakeholders.
- Broad understanding of global compensation architectures, benefits programs, incentive, and performance reward frameworks.
- Experience as a Subject Matter Expert for Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) supporting compensation, benefits, rewards processes, and ongoing system enhancements.
- Strong analytical abilities, commercial acumen, and proven stakeholder management skills.
- Prior success designing and administering reward systems in sectors such as technology, software, automation, robotics, engineering, or other competitive talent markets where talent acquisition and retention are vital.
Work Locations
This position can be based in Oslo, Stavanger or Nedre Vats (Norway); Ulm, Berlin, or Hamburg (Germany); Vienna or Graz (Austria); Lyon (France); London (United Kingdom); or Salem, NH (United States). Candidates from other areas should express willingness to relocate.
