Job description

About the Role

Onliest LLC is looking for an experienced Textile Designer specializing in saree construction and weaving technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical understanding of weaving principles, practical skills in loom-based design systems, and the ability to create repeatable, scalable saree designs utilizing both traditional and modern weaving techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and apply weaving construction principles specific to saree components such as body, border, and blouse sections.
  • Develop modular and scalable saree design frameworks to facilitate consistent production.
  • Convert design concepts into loom-compatible formats using CAD software and jacquard programming methods.
  • Examine warp and weft interactions to achieve targeted fabric characteristics.
  • Plan pick structures comprehensively for different zones of the saree.
  • Assess loom feasibility and choose appropriate weaving machinery for various designs.
  • Work in close collaboration with weavers, mills, and production teams for sampling, troubleshooting, and execution.
  • Ensure consistent fabric quality, including weight distribution and structural balance.
  • Identify and resolve challenges encountered during design development and production processes.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Academic background in Textile Engineering or Textile Design with strong grasp of weaving fundamentals and fabric construction techniques.
  • Proficient understanding of warp vs. weft dynamics, weave structures, and performance attributes.
  • Experienced in saree and border construction methodologies.
  • Knowledgeable in various loom technologies, including Jacquard, electronic Dobby, and traditional looms, with ability to evaluate loom suitability.
  • Hands-on expertise with CAD and loom translation software, especially NedGraphics, Textronics, and jacquard programming essential for producing production-ready loom instructions.
  • Technical skills in warp setup and pick planning covering yarn counts, tension control, and border separation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fabric behavior, material sensitivity, and balance between weave structure and weight distribution, particularly within Indian saree construction contexts.
  • Proven track record working with weavers, textile mills, and production cycles including sampling and troubleshooting weaving failures.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities bridging design intentions with effective production implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in luxury or high-end textile design contexts.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving orientation.
  • Capability to integrate design, engineering aspects, and production workflow.
