Job description

Overview

We are looking for a proficient Testing and Commissioning Engineer specializing in Substation Automation Systems (SAS) to join our team in Doha, Qatar. The role involves driving project execution and supporting customer service by engineering, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining substation control, automation, and monitoring systems to ensure optimal, reliable functionality aligned with project and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, test, and commission Siemens SICAM PAS and SICAM A8000 automation systems.
  • Develop and manage HMI and SCADA solutions including parameterization, configuration, and WinCC scripting.
  • Integrate and commission devices such as Bay Control Units (BCUs), protection relays, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), energy meters, and various multi-vendor Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs).
  • Engineer and troubleshoot communication protocols including IEC 61850, Modbus, and IEC 60870-5-104.
  • Conduct comprehensive testing procedures including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), point-to-point verification, functional testing, interlocking and redundancy checks, as well as complete system validation.
  • Configure and maintain industrial communication networks incorporating managed switches, firewalls, VLANs, routing, and secured remote access.
  • Enforce cybersecurity measures and system hardening in alignment with project and industrial standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation such as point lists, test protocols, commissioning reports, network schematics, and as-built documentation.
  • Adhere to Siemens' Environmental, Health & Safety standards and customer-specific technical requirements.
  • Support operational activities including planned shutdowns, energization, emergency interventions, and commissioning tasks across sites in Qatar.
  • Collaborate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous technical improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Communication, or Control Systems Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of practical experience in Substation Automation Systems, SCADA, or protection and control system commissioning.
  • Proficiency with Siemens SICAM PAS, SICAM A8000, and WinCC software platforms.
  • Deep understanding of communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, and IEC 60870-5-104.
  • Experience integrating and commissioning protection relays, IEDs, RTUs, and automation devices from various manufacturers.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial networks, operational technology infrastructure, and cybersecurity principles.
  • Familiarity with SIMARIS Control software is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities coupled with strong technical reporting and communication skills.
  • Fluent English both spoken and written.
  • Prior experience working in GCC region is advantageous.
  • Relevant certifications in SAS, SCADA, networking, or cybersecurity are beneficial.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid Qatar driving license is preferred.

  • Willingness to travel and perform tasks at substations, control centers, industrial plants, and other client locations throughout Qatar.
  • Flexibility to work during planned shutdowns, extended commissioning periods, and emergency situations as required.
