Job description

About Momentum Consulting Group and ACC

Momentum Consulting Group partners with ACC, a respected and high-performing New Zealand organisation that provides care, supports recovery, and actively promotes injury prevention now and in the future. ACC aims to offer a working environment that embraces the diverse cultural landscape of Aotearoa New Zealand and provides equitable opportunities for all individuals.

Role Overview

The Technology Design Lead is a newly created position within ACC’s Technical Integration and Process Engineering team. This role acts as a crucial connector between high-level solution architecture and detailed technical designs needed by integration engineers to ensure successful delivery of projects. It involves working closely with Agile Release Trains and being embedded with functional delivery teams that include business analysts, product owners, integration developers, and testers.

The role involves translating broad technical strategies into practical, operable solutions that are supportable in production. While mainly based in Wellington, genuine flexibility allows working from any major ACC hub including Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, or Auckland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Owners and senior stakeholders to shape and prioritize the design backlog, documenting scope, options, and recommended roadmaps.
  • Define solution architecture and create related artefacts such as non-functional requirements (NFRs), diagrams, architecture decision records (ADRs), and patterns that conform to strategy, guardrails, privacy, and security standards.
  • Maintain the architecture runway and design guardrails to support continuous delivery processes.
  • Deliver hands-on design support during build, testing, and release phases, quickly resolving any technical blockers encountered by squads.
  • Manage runtime health aspects including release assessments, security and privacy evaluations, incident triage, and environment management.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance cloud cost transparency and optimisation in partnership with Finance teams.
  • Develop engineering capabilities by mentoring team members, conducting peer reviews, and sharing knowledge effectively.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in solution or technical architecture.
  • Between 3 to 5 years of experience leading multi-team design decisions on large, business-critical projects.
  • Proven success in delivering end-to-end platform solutions incorporating integration, data management, security, and operational readiness within complex enterprise settings.
  • Practical experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies (including Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and managing architecture runway to enable continuous delivery.
  • Expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or equivalents, and modeling standards like ArchiMate and UML.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate secure-by-design and privacy-by-design principles into architectural solutions.
  • Preferred technical skills include MuleSoft, Azure cloud-native integration with Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Axway file transfer technology, and Oracle Integration Cloud platforms.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with a capacity to influence without direct authority, working effectively with delivery teams, architects, and vendors.
  • High level of self-motivation with eagerness to learn new technical domains.

Preferred Certifications

Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, professional cloud architect credentials, SAFe Architect, ITIL, or CISSP are highly advantageous but not mandatory if equivalent knowledge and experience are demonstrated.

Working Environment and Benefits

  • ACC embraces diversity and inclusion, supporting employees from various backgrounds and promotes a culture where people can be their authentic selves.
  • Participation in employee networks fostering diverse backgrounds.
  • Flexible working options tailored to meet both individual and organisational needs.
  • Competitive salary range of NZD 138,301 to NZD 178,977, depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including a superannuation scheme with a 9% employer contribution with no compulsory employee contribution, as well as optional life and income protection insurance.

Additional Information

Applicants must possess the legal right to work in New Zealand at the time of application.
