Technician (Kitchen)

Position Overview

This role involves responding promptly to guest requests for repairs and maintaining kitchen and hotel equipment with minimal supervision. The technician is expected to perform preventive maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating tools and equipment, visually inspecting machinery, and safely handling all repair tasks. The position requires a comprehensive skill set covering several technical areas and adherence to safety and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Address guest maintenance requests efficiently and resolve technical issues independently.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on tools and equipment including cleaning and lubrication.
• Inspect equipment visually and carry necessary tools such as radios and repair devices.
• Identify and operate shut-off valves for equipment during maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and request parts as required.
• Communicate day-to-day activities and problems clearly to subsequent shifts using approved communication standards.
• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical diagrams, particularly involving plumbing and HVAC systems.
• Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude across multiple disciplines including air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, pneumatics/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen appliances, and general building management.
• Perform advanced repair tasks on physical property, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, air conditioning, refrigeration, and pool heaters according to company and regulatory standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair diverse equipment such as pumps, motors, plumbing fixtures, electrical items, HVAC, and electronic devices.
• Use Lockout/Tagout procedures to ensure safety before maintenance work.
• Utilize engineering computer programs for preventive maintenance and energy management systems.
• Carry out advanced troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in the hotel.
• Train and mentor other engineering team members when necessary.
• Fulfill Engineer on Duty responsibilities including system monitoring and record-keeping.
• Follow all safety and security policies, report hazards or incidents, and complete required safety training.
• Maintain professional appearance and uphold confidentiality and asset protection.
• Deliver courteous guest interaction consistent with company hospitality standards.
• Develop positive team relationships and respond effectively to colleagues’ concerns.
• Perform physical tasks involving lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted, and heavier lifting with assistance; navigate stairs, ramps, and ladders; and perform various physical movements required for maintenance duties.
• Use computers to access work-related information and complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent complemented by vocational or technical training.
• Minimum of two years experience in hotel engineering or maintenance.
• Extensive background in general maintenance, electrical and refrigeration systems, parts inventory management, surface preparation, and painting.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification mandatory.
• Compliance with applicable state and federal certification and licensing requirements.
• No supervisory experience required.
