Job description

About the Role

MongoDB is recruiting an Engineering Manager to join the Atlas Organization, which is responsible for our flagship database-as-a-service product, MongoDB Atlas. This platform empowers users to deploy secure, fault-tolerant, and globally distributed MongoDB clusters across AWS, Azure, and GCP swiftly. Our goal is to maintain high security, durability, availability, and performance for all MongoDB deployments.

The Atlas Data Federation & Archiving team develops key features that allow customers to migrate data between hot and cold storage and execute federated queries across multiple data sources. This team creates Atlas Data Federation, a scalable query engine enabling unified data queries across clusters and cloud storage, and Atlas Online Archive, which manages cold data storage with seamless query capabilities.

This newly formed team is based in Dublin, and the Engineering Manager will play a critical role in scaling and shaping the team. Candidates based in Cork who prefer hybrid or onsite work arrangements are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of passionate and motivated engineers focused on both personal and technical growth.
  • Participate actively in coding, system design, and architectural discussions related to your team’s projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across MongoDB to plan roadmaps and define product capabilities.
  • Engage with customers and support teams to resolve complex issues and participate in on-call support rotations.
  • Advance the codebase by establishing best practices and design standards through close teamwork.
  • Promote an inclusive and respectful environment aligned with MongoDB’s core values.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum six years of professional software development experience.
  • At least three years of experience managing engineering teams.
  • Proven leadership in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
  • Technical expertise in designing backend services using compiled languages such as Go, Java, or C#.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with cloud storage technologies like S3, GCS, or Azure Blob.
  • Experience working with petabyte-scale data infrastructure or storage solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and eagerness to tackle challenging issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • A curious, motivated, and team-oriented approach to work.

Success Criteria

  • Within the first month, gain comprehensive understanding of the system fundamentals, features, and ongoing projects within the Atlas Clusters team.
  • Within three months, actively contribute to your team's design and development efforts and participate in expanding the team.
  • Within six months, lead your team in delivering medium-scale projects aligned with product and engineering objectives, support customers during escalations, and engage in the on-call rotation.
