Role Summary

We are seeking an accomplished Technical Director specializing in water infrastructure to lead and influence some of the most critical water projects in New Zealand. This strategic role involves providing expert technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle, from initial planning and advisory phases to detailed design and delivery. The successful candidate will have a strong reputation within the industry, exceptional commercial insight, and the ability to foster collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and provide technical direction on complex water infrastructure initiatives.
• Serve as a trusted consultant to clients, addressing their toughest challenges effectively.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, practical solutions that are feasible to implement.
• Support major business development activities, including bids and pursuits.
• Monitor emerging market trends and opportunities to enhance AECOM’s water-related services.
• Represent the company proudly within the client community and broader industry landscape.
• Mentor technical professionals and nurture future leaders within the organization.
• Collaborate nationally and regionally across New Zealand and Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) to integrate expertise.
• Advocate for excellence, innovation, and efficiency in project execution.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive experience leading water infrastructure projects in a consulting setting.
• A prominent technical standing and strong network within New Zealand’s water sector.
• Proven ability to lead technically complex projects from inception through to completion.
• Demonstrated skill in building senior-level client and stakeholder relationships with credibility.
• Successful track record contributing to winning bids and business growth efforts.
• Passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge within technical teams.
• Ability to influence cross-disciplinary teams and collaborate effectively in a large organization.
• Innovative approach with enthusiasm for adopting new technologies and smarter work methods.
• Relevant tertiary engineering qualification or equivalent, with Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status preferred.
