Job description
Overview
CGI seeks a Technical Architect to support a major application upgrade programme, forming the technical foundation necessary for successful system enhancements. This hybrid position is based in Glasgow, requiring attendance at client and CGI offices about three days a week.
Role Responsibilities
- Evaluate and update High Level Designs (HLDs) and other technical documents through thorough analysis of the current application environment.
- Rebuild and document technical architectures where original designs are incomplete or missing.
- Collaborate closely with technical experts to uncover the true state of application systems, defining hosting, infrastructure, integrations, dependencies, security, and operational details.
- Produce precise, consolidated technical baselines that enhance governance and minimize risks across the upgrade programme.
- Identify and report architectural changes or risks, escalating issues through proper governance channels.
- Engage with Solution Architects, Technical Leads, SMEs, and delivery teams to foster collaboration and consensus.
- Support informed decision-making and successful delivery of application upgrade milestones by maintaining reliable architectural documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience as a Technical Architect in complex application or enterprise technology settings.
- Strong capability in creating and maintaining detailed technical architecture documentation such as High Level Designs.
- Proven ability to reverse-engineer or reconstruct technical designs from systems, stakeholder input, and partial documentation.
- Solid understanding of application hosting, infrastructure, and the interactions between applications and underlying technologies.
- Experience with interfaces, integrations, and managing technical dependencies within application environments.
- Working knowledge of security implications related to technical and application architectures.
- Awareness of operational and support considerations influencing design choices.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially when working with incomplete or inconsistent data.
- Attention to detail to establish and maintain accurate architectural baselines.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to effectively interact with diverse technical stakeholders and teams.
