Job description

Role Overview

ELEK Software is seeking an experienced Lead Technical Architect to drive the architecture and technical vision of its globally recognized electrical power engineering software suite. This leadership role focuses on pioneering AI-native engineering applications, designing systems from scratch that integrate advanced AI technologies for users in over 50 countries. Although the domain expertise comes from specialized electrical engineering teams, the architect will focus on the technical and architectural aspects, requiring no electrical engineering background.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the software architecture and strategic technical roadmap across multiple products.
  • Develop AI-driven applications and platform functionality, including web APIs, large language model (LLM) orchestration, retrieval, inference, and real-time evaluation.
  • Manage and evolve cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring scalable deployment, continuous integration/delivery, security measures, and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain a hands-on role by actively coding alongside leading engineering teams.
  • Oversee multiple product teams; set priorities and track technical performance to ensure delivery excellence.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and continued professional growth of engineering staff.
  • Set and enforce standards for engineering practices, including code quality, testing, security, and reliable software delivery.
  • Balance technical investments against competing product roadmap demands and platform needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and engineering leaders to translate domain-specific requirements into robust software architectures.
  • Make strategic technology decisions regarding new builds versus acquisitions; actively manage technical debt.
  • Implement and manage AI integration tools throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience as a software architect responsible for designing and delivering full lifecycle commercial software products.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS cloud services, including scalable deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud security best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to create production-grade web APIs and backend services, with proficiency in API design, authentication, versioning, performance, and scaling.
  • Experience building and deploying AI-powered systems involving LLMs, agent orchestration, retrieval mechanisms, and production inference.
  • Track record of successfully leading engineering teams and managing simultaneous product lines.
  • Experienced in hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers in a growth environment.
  • Comfortable working closely with subject-matter experts to produce deep-domain products.
  • Excellent communication skills and sound judgment in prioritizing development efforts.
  • Passion for actively coding and maintaining technical proficiency.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and seniority.
  • Hybrid work arrangement based in Sydney CBD's Centre for Innovation.
  • Significant autonomy with ownership over technology strategy and architectural decisions.
  • Opportunity to shape the future of AI-native software in power engineering.
