About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Systems Reliability Engineer with a strong affinity for AI integration to join our Engineering Team. This role involves close collaboration with core development units to maintain and enhance operational systems, aiming for minimal manual intervention. You will support the entire software development life cycle to ensure that platforms are scalable, resilient, and manageable, while optimizing infrastructure and software to boost reliability and reduce costs.
The ideal candidate proactively employs AI tools to diagnose, automate, script, and document workflows as standard practice, functioning naturally within an AI-assisted development environment. This position requires addressing live support issues alongside participating in DevOps activities such as implementing changes and troubleshooting. AI solutions are expected to perform initial diagnostics, with you validating and directing their outcomes.
This position is based in Auckland, New Zealand, and operates on a hybrid work model combining office presence and remote work. Regular on-site attendance is necessary. Applications from candidates residing elsewhere but planning relocation to Auckland are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with development teams to architect cloud deployments on Microsoft Azure.
- Lead environment provisioning, covering servers, services, networking, and client technical communications.
- Ensure architectures incorporate security, scalability, maintainability, and optimized performance.
- Support continuous integration and delivery pipeline creation tailored to specific technology stacks.
- Execute scheduled software releases with development partners when complete automation is pending.
- Set up monitoring and alerting tools integrated with support management software.
- Provide technical help in triaging support tickets, verifying issues and determining responsibility.
- Participate actively in troubleshooting and resolving urgent support incidents during business and after-hours on a shared on-call roster.
- Document incidents with mitigation recommendations and implement improvements alongside development teams.
- Track incident resolution and maintain communication with clients.
- Design and execute proactive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce support issues.
- Prioritize automation for recurring tasks to eliminate repetition.
- Employ AI-assisted documentation for system architectures and deployment workflows, sharing knowledge across support teams.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven background as a Systems or Site Reliability Engineer, or DevOps Engineer.
- Comfortable using AI to assist in diagnosis, automation, scripting, and documentation within delivery pipelines.
- Strong experience designing scalable web applications.
- Working knowledge of Rust, Java, .NET, or Go; familiarity with front-end frameworks like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, ReactJS, AngularJS is desirable.
- Proficient scripting skills in PowerShell, Ruby, Python, shell, or comparable languages, leveraging AI for code construction.
- Expertise with Microsoft Azure deployment architectures, Azure DevOps pipelines, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
- Experience managing Linux cloud servers and troubleshooting virtual network configurations.
- Familiarity with monitoring platforms such as New Relic or Dynatrace, including dashboard setup and alert integration.
- Additional exposure to AWS and CI/CD tools such as Bamboo or Bitbucket Pipelines is advantageous.
- Ability to adapt quickly across diverse technologies and complex systems.
- Remain composed under pressure during high-priority incident resolution.
- Sound judgment in discerning when to trust AI diagnostics and when manual verification is needed.
- A keen commitment to continuous learning and skills enhancement.
- Based in Auckland with readiness to work on-site three days weekly and as needed based on client/team demands.
