Job description
Position Summary
This full-time Support Worker role, located in Tauranga, offers an opportunity to assist adults with intellectual disabilities in achieving their personal goals, enhancing independence, and participating in important daily activities. You will bring compassion, creativity, and commitment to delivering meaningful support focused on individuals' needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Recognise and respond effectively to signs of emotional overwhelm.
- Support individuals to develop life skills such as using public transport, meal preparation, and seeking employment.
- Assist with daily self-care routines including hygiene, medication management, and eating.
- Encourage pursuit of personal goals, hobbies, and interests.
- Promote healthy lifestyle choices and wellbeing.
- Foster strong connections between individuals, their families, and communities.
Candidate Profile
- Preferred prior experience in caregiving or support work, though varied life experience and a positive mindset are key.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and confidence in supporting individuals with complex needs and behaviours.
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and aptitude for building meaningful relationships.
- Flexible to work diverse shifts including mornings, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends.
- Comfortable using computers and tablets as part of daily tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Physically fit to provide necessary physical assistance.
- Possession of a full New Zealand driver's license is mandatory.
