About the Role
Join our team in Hamilton as a Support Worker, providing essential assistance and empowerment to adults with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful lives within their homes and communities. This permanent position offers a varied roster with approximately 65+ hours per fortnight, including morning, evening, sleepover, and weekend shifts. The role is rewarding, allowing flexibility and creativity to make each day engaging and valuable for the people you support.
Key Responsibilities
- Encourage and foster independence by supporting individuals in developing skills such as using public transport and meal preparation.
- Assist with daily living routines including personal care activities like showering, dressing, and medication management.
- Motivate and support individuals to pursue their personal interests, goals, and hobbies.
- Promote healthy lifestyle choices to maintain overall health and wellbeing.
- Strengthen connections with family (whānau) and the wider community to build a strong support network.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrate a compassionate and people-centered attitude, valuing the dignity and wellbeing of those supported.
- Be adaptable to work various rostered shifts, including weekends.
- Maintain calmness and patience when supporting individuals with complex or challenging behaviours.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be comfortable and confident in using computers and tablets as part of daily tasks.
- Have the physical ability to provide safe mobility and personal care assistance when needed.
- Hold a full New Zealand driver's licence.
