Job description
Role Overview
This position is responsible for overseeing the contractual and commercial management of subcontract agreements from the point of award until completion and closure. The focus lies in handling subcontractor variations, claims, contractual communications, progress monitoring, invoicing, and ensuring overall compliance with contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage multiple subcontract agreements throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Analyze and interpret subcontract agreements to ensure compliance and highlight any potential contractual or commercial risks.
- Handle Variation Orders, claims, extensions of time (EOT), delays, and other subcontractor benefits by assessing, negotiating, and resolving these matters.
- Detect possible claims and contractual risks early and suggest appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Prepare, review, and respond to formal contractual letters, notices, claims, and correspondence from subcontractors.
- Track subcontractor progress including payment milestones, invoices, retention, advance payments, and pending contractual obligations.
- Keep accurate and current registers of subcontracts, variations, claims, correspondence, invoices, and critical contract dates.
- Collaborate effectively with Project, Planning, Commercial, Finance, and Technical teams to ensure accurate subcontract agreement administration.
- Support negotiation processes with subcontractors and help resolve commercial and contractual disputes.
- Coordinate subcontract close-out activities, such as finalizing accounts, outstanding claims, variations, warranties, and maintaining contractual documentation.
Candidate Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Law, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in subcontract administration, contracts management, or a similar role within construction or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong skills in interpreting contract terms and identifying contractual and commercial risks.
- Excellent ability in drafting contracts, writing formal correspondence, and communication.
- Highly organized with the capacity to oversee multiple subcontract contracts and deadlines simultaneously.
- Effective negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with contract/document management tools such as Aconex or similar platforms is advantageous.
