Role Overview
The Street Cleansing Labourer will work within the Street and Beach Services team to uphold high standards of cleanliness and environmental care across the city's streets, commercial zones, and beaches. The role involves assisting supervisors in executing cleaning operations while managing community complaints and ensuring excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate varied equipment such as industrial vacuum cleaners, pressure washers, blowers, hand rakes, shovels, brooms, and litter pickers.
- Perform physical manual tasks including lifting, digging, raking, sweeping, and litter collection, alongside use of mechanical tools.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of roads, streets, beaches, and drainage systems throughout the municipality.
- Safely remove biohazards to protect public health.
- Collect and dispose of dumped bulky waste and rubbish across the city.
Required Skills and Experience
- Significant experience in outdoor labouring roles within operational settings.
- Strong knowledge and practical application of safe manual handling and occupational health and safety procedures, including safe, competent operation of heavy vehicles.
- Effective oral and written communication to liaise with internal teams and community members.
- Proven ability in responding promptly to customer service requests.
Mandatory Qualifications and Checks
- Successful pre-employment medical examination and functional capability assessment.
- Possession of a Victorian Driver Licence; Medium Rigid Vehicle licence and Vic Roads verification are preferred.
- Completion of a National Police Check facilitated by the council.
Working Conditions
This is a permanent full-time position based at the South Melbourne Depot. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Rostered weekend and public holiday overtime will be required. Salary band 2 ranges from $79,877.67 to $81,470.65 annually, plus an additional 12% superannuation.
