Role Summary
The Steward role involves adhering strictly to stewarding procedures and standards as outlined by the Food & Beverage Management and the overarching Management Company. The role includes preparing banquet wares, managing dishwashing operations, transporting supplies and food to service points, supporting kitchen plating for banquets, and maintaining the cleanliness and order of dishwashing, kitchen, cafeteria, storage, and compactor areas. Responsibilities also extend to waste and recycling management in all F&B zones.
Key Duties
- Comply fully with departmental policies, performance standards, and service procedures documented in the Performance Task Manual.
- Consistently uphold high standards of cleanliness and service daily.
- Operate and maintain equipment correctly, using it strictly as intended.
- Respond promptly and courteously to guests, anticipating their needs regardless of time or workload, and sustain positive guest engagement.
- Remain knowledgeable of hotel features and local attractions to accurately address guest inquiries.
- Resolve guest concerns effectively to ensure satisfaction.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization in assigned areas.
- Use appropriate cleaning agents following regulatory guidelines.
- Prepare and replenish workstations with necessary supplies; report shortages to the Stewarding Manager.
- Monitor dishwashing machine conditions, perform cycle chemical filling, and temperature checks, correcting issues as needed.
- Manage washing and drying of dishware, inspecting for cleanliness and rewashing if necessary.
- Handle dishes carefully to avoid damage.
- Perform routine maintenance like water and filter changes in dishwashing machines.
- Ensure water and chemical usage optimization during dishwashing operations.
- Maintain garbage disposals and refuse areas, including cleaning garbage compactors and loading docks.
- Use designated cleaning tools and chemicals to maintain floors, mats, and storage closets; ensure all items are orderly and clean.
- Responsible for transporting waste and recycling containers to disposal areas, following recycling protocols.
- Maintain polished and spotless chafing dishes and banquet wares.
- Assist with banquet setups, kitchen equipment arrangements, meal plating, bussing trays, and managing return of unused food and supplies.
- Clean and maintain staff cafeteria continuously.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Prior experience in a similar stewarding role is necessary, especially within luxury or ultra-luxury hotel environments.
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work quickly and accurately, organize and prioritize tasks effectively, and resolve problems calmly with sound judgment.
- Capability to follow instructions thoroughly and work independently or as part of a team.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning guest and hotel data.
- Proficiency in English for verbal and written communication; ability to provide clear instructions.
- Basic arithmetic skills and familiarity with material safety and handling procedures, including knowledge of MSDS sheets and WHMIS.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform a range of movements during work hours.
- WHMIS and FoodSafe certifications are advantageous.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada is mandatory; the employer does not provide assistance for work authorization.
Compensation
The hourly wage for this position ranges from $25.64 to $34.19, reflecting the hotel's anticipated pay scale for the role.
