It proudly stands as the only 2 Key Michelin rated hotel within Vancouver.

Role Overview

The Barback plays an essential role supporting the preparation and service operations of the 1927 and Reflections bars. This position involves assisting bartenders and servers with food and beverage preparation, maintaining bar station setups, and ensuring smooth service delivery to guests.

Core Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable about hotel services, features, and local attractions to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
  • Manage stocking of all bar supplies including paper goods, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, glassware, linens, condiments, and consumables before, during, and after shifts.
  • Support servers with food service tasks such as setting silverware, serving dishes, clearing and cleaning tables.
  • Bus tables efficiently by clearing glassware and debris during service periods.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of bar sections, table assignments, operating hours, proper table setups, and dress codes.
  • Be familiar with all liquor brands, beers, non-alcoholic options, appropriate glassware, and garnishes.
  • Understand the characteristics and descriptions of all wines and champagnes by the glass and main wines on the list.
  • Know menu items comprehensively including prices, preparation techniques, main ingredients, quality standards, presentation, and serving norms.
  • Possess basic knowledge of Micros Point of Sale (POS) and manual systems.
  • Retrieve alcoholic beverages from the bar and serve them to guests as required.
  • Open and serve wine and champagne bottles appropriately.
  • Clear and transport soiled dishes and wares to dishwashing areas promptly.
  • Clean and reset tables immediately after guests leave.
  • Collect and account for tips at shift end.
  • Complete closing duties such as breaking down and storing reusable goods, cleaning equipment, restocking for the next service, removing dirty linens, organizing condiments, and resetting tables for upcoming meal periods.
  • Adhere strictly to departmental policies, service procedures, operational standards, and equipment maintenance guidelines.
  • Anticipate and promptly respond to guest needs, ensuring high guest satisfaction regardless of service busyness or time of day.
  • Maintain positive relationships internally and externally with guests and colleagues.
  • Uphold personal grooming and dress code standards as outlined by the hotel.
  • Resolve any guest complaints efficiently to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the assigned work area.
  • Utilize the Brichstreet inventory system to create requisitions, monitor stock levels, and replenish supplies as needed while maintaining par stock levels.
  • Perform additional reasonable job duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in food and beverage operations, preferably within a luxury hotel setting.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and speed; ability to prioritize and organize work independently.
  • Clear-thinking problem solver capable of managing guest service demands calmly and using sound judgment.
  • Ability to comprehend guest service requirements thoroughly and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of guest and hotel information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possession of Serving It Right and FoodSafe certifications.
  • Familiarity with Micros POS or similar systems.
  • Proficient in English with ability to speak, read, and write; knowledge of additional languages is advantageous.
  • Physical stamina to handle up to 75-pound loads and perform various physical tasks in work areas.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada; the employer does not provide visa sponsorship.
