About the Role
This position is focused on maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment by executing daily cleaning tasks as directed by supervisors. The steward will be responsible for cleaning floor mats, sweeping, mopping kitchen floors to remove debris and grease, and cleaning behind and underneath all kitchen equipment. Additional duties include maintaining the hood vent system and ovens, sanitizing garbage cans, and ensuring proper storage of kitchen equipment such as china, glass, silverware, cooking tools, and utensils.
The steward will uphold cleanliness standards for floors, walls, dishes, pots, and more, while ensuring safety markers like “Wet Floor” signs are properly used. The role supports kitchen workers by making sure they have and use the right equipment including gloves, goggles, and cleaning solutions. Proper functionality of all kitchen equipment must be monitored and any malfunctions promptly reported. Team collaboration includes assisting kitchen utility workers, supporting other outlets with cleaning or restocking, and aiding in training kitchen staff on safety and cleaning practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete daily cleaning projects under supervisor guidance.
- Clean floor mats and sweep, mop kitchen floors to eliminate food residue and grease.
- Clean behind and under kitchen equipment thoroughly.
- Maintain hood vent systems and ovens in clean condition.
- Sanitize all garbage cans regularly.
- Keep adequate inventory of cleaning supplies and tools.
- Organize and store equipment correctly.
- Ensure all floors, walls, dishes, and pots meet cleanliness standards.
- Use appropriate safety signage such as "Wet Floor" signs effectively.
- Verify kitchen workers have the proper protective equipment and enforce its usage.
- Report any equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Support utility personnel and other outlets with duties as assigned.
- Train kitchen staff in safety protocols and proper use of cleaning solutions.
- Manage organization and secure storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards compliant with company policies, Health Department, and OSHA regulations.
- Respect confidentiality regarding company matters.
Candidate Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- At least six months of cleaning experience required.
- Knowledge of cleaning solutions and compounds; experience cleaning various types of kitchen equipment.
- Strong verbal communication skills in English, both fluent and literate.
- Excellent organizational abilities.
- Capacity to understand product labeling for safe application of cleaning materials.
- Team-oriented with effective communication skills across organization levels.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and fluctuating days off.
