Role Overview

As a Static Mechanical Engineer based in Qatar, you will offer expert technical support, design validation, asset integrity management, and engineering assistance for stationary equipment and piping within a manufacturing plant. The position aims to boost plant reliability, lead major turnaround execution strategies, ensure compliance with international design codes, and mitigate risks in challenging process environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and approve calculations, data sheets, specifications, and drawings for modifications or new pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and tanks.
• Create and examine Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Material Specifications, and Material Take-Offs complying with standards like ASME, ANSI, and API.
• Develop and assess plot plans, equipment layouts, and 3D models including pipeline routing for critical utilities.
• Conduct piping flexibility and stress analyses to verify system endurance under high-pressure, temperature, and vibration conditions.
• Implement plant modifications under the Management of Change procedure to maintain safety and design integrity.
• Prepare technical deliverables such as scope of work, bid evaluations, and vendor drawings for equipment replacement projects.
• Define technical scopes for critical static equipment during plant shutdowns and turnarounds.
• Develop inspection and repair procedures for high-pressure equipment including heat exchangers and storage tanks.
• Supervise on-site repairs ensuring compliance with welding, heat treatment, and non-destructive testing standards.
• Support Fitness-for-Service evaluations and lifespan assessments for aging equipment.
• Investigate root causes of mechanical failures and implement solutions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in heavy continuous-process chemical plants, petrochemical facilities, or refineries.
• Preferably experienced in fertilizer manufacturing units such as Ammonia, Urea, or Nitrates plants.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large capital equipment replacements and participate in substantial plant turnarounds.
• Fluent English communication skills, both oral and written, for technical reporting and coordination with international vendors.

Technical Skills and Codes

• Advanced use of PV Elite for pressure vessel design, CAESAR II for piping stress analysis, and NozzlePRO software.
• Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2 (Pressure Vessels), ASME B31.3 (Process Piping), API 650/620 (Storage Tanks), and TEMA Standards (Heat Exchangers).

Core Competencies

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex plant issues.
• Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary EPC contractors and vendor engineers.
