Engineering Manager

Position Overview

The Project Engineering Manager role is based in Abu Dhabi with responsibilities spanning engineering centers located in India and the UAE. Reporting to the Project Director and functionally to the Engineering Director or Corporate Engineering Head, this position leads multiple direct reports across various engineering disciplines and teams including Discipline Engineering Managers, Engineering Coordinators, and the Design & Document Control team.

Role Purpose

To oversee and direct the full engineering function of the project, ensuring timely delivery, strict adherence to technical standards and specifications, smooth interdisciplinary integration, and alignment with procurement, fabrication, and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Engineering Execution Plan including establishing the work breakdown structure, schedules aligned to project milestones, and resource planning.
• Manage the preparation, review, and approval of design calculations, drawings, specifications, material requisitions and monitor progress against Level 2 and 3 schedules to meet key performance indicators and timelines.
• Lead coordination among Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to resolve design conflicts and interface issues ensuring integrated and consistent outputs.
• Assure quality by complying with the Project Quality Plan, customer standards, and international codes such as ASME, API, ISO, and IEC through design reviews, independent checks, and a ‘‘Right First Time’’ design philosophy.
• Support procurement by timely issuance of Material Requisitions and Technical Bid Evaluations, aiding vendor selection and approvals, and reviewing vendor documentation.
• Facilitate construction and fabrication by providing necessary engineering deliverables supporting fabrication sequences and construction techniques, resolving site queries, and offering field engineering support during execution.
• Assist offshore installation and commissioning phases ensuring readiness of system documentation, red-line markups, and updates to as-built records.
• Manage engineering interfaces across internal disciplines and external contractors, collaborating with Interface Managers for resolution and tracking critical project interactions.
• Coordinate with planning teams to align engineering schedules with procurement, fabrication milestones, and monitor impacts on critical project paths and liquidated damages.
• Administer change management processes evaluating cost, schedule, and technical implications while supporting contract variation and claim preparations.
• Identify and mitigate engineering risks related to design changes, delayed deliverables, and technical uncertainties, supporting broader risk management activities.
• Implement and administer digital engineering management systems, including EDMS (like Aconex), 3D modeling, BIM, and smart plant technologies ensuring precise document control and revision management.
• Engage effectively with client engineering teams to lead design reviews, workshops, and ensure timely incorporation of feedback and approvals.
• Provide strong leadership, managing multi-location, multi-disciplinary engineering teams with an emphasis on staffing, competency development, performance management, collaboration, and accountability.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Process Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
• 20 to 25+ years of experience in EPC Oil & Gas projects.
• At least 8 to 10 years in engineering management positions.
• Demonstrated experience managing mega projects valued over USD 1 billion (preferably over USD 3 billion), including offshore and brownfield projects.
• Strong familiarity with Middle East project environments.

Technical and Behavioral Competencies

• Expertise in multi-discipline engineering management across the full EPC design lifecycle (from FEED to detailed engineering).
• Proficiency with design standards such as ASME, API, IEC, and ISO.
• Vendor engineering and procurement support knowledge.
• Experience with 3D modeling and smart engineering systems.
• Strong skills in interface and change management.
• Understanding of construction and installation best practices.
