Overview

The Marketing Studio Intelligence team is responsible for developing the intelligence layer driving HubSpot’s next-generation marketing platform. This role focuses on integrating campaign performance, marketing assets, CRM data, and AI tools to empower marketers by providing insights, uncovering new opportunities, and guiding next steps.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for a small engineering team of 2-3 members, guiding them to meet shared engineering and product objectives.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve backend services that enable campaign integration, performance measurement, automation, and AI-powered marketing capabilities within the Marketing Studio.
- Engage hands-on with coding, delivering high-quality Java code and tackling critical technical challenges.
- Lead the technical design of integrations connecting Marketing Studio with HubSpot’s campaign systems, marketing assets, CRM data, and other platform services.
- Develop scalable backend systems that support campaign analytics, attribution reporting, and intelligent recommendations.
- Enhance backend features that enable AI-driven experiences incorporating campaign context, CRM data, and engagement history to produce actionable insights.
- Translate complex initiatives into technical plans, assist engineers in navigating architecture decisions, managing dependencies, and mitigating risks.
- Mentor engineers through technical reviews, feedback, and development.
- Collaborate with Product and UX teams to prioritize initiatives and convert customer challenges into effective technical solutions balancing speed, quality, and system durability.
- Coordinate across engineering teams to ensure cohesion when projects involve shared services, campaign infrastructure, data pipelines, and platform capabilities.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and managing production backend systems.
- Proficient Java developer with experience building scalable backend services; familiarity with Kafka and MySQL or similar backend technologies.
- Proven ability to technically lead a small team while staying actively engaged in code contribution.
- Experience mentoring engineers and promoting technical growth and accountability.
- Strong knowledge of system architecture principles including scalability, reliability, performance optimization, fault tolerance, testing methodologies, and system observability.
- Experience in designing and delivering AI-enhanced products like agentic workflow systems, recommendation engines, decisioning platforms, personalization features, or next-best-action tools.
- Skill in building orchestration layers, APIs, and feedback mechanisms that connect AI or machine learning outputs with customer interactions and business outcomes.
- Knowledge in handling complex and high-volume data ensuring AI model outputs are relevant, explainable, trustworthy, and valuable.
- Expertise in defining evaluation systems and monitoring frameworks to assess AI recommendations' quality and impact.
- Ability to collaborate closely with ML and data science teams to integrate and deploy models into production environments.
- Strong product intuition and customer empathy to discern valuable insights and their optimal presentation to users.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex AI concepts to cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, UX, Design, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with recommendation systems, decisioning engines, personalization, ranking algorithms, experimentation, or next-best-action technologies.
- Background integrating CRM, marketing, campaign, advertising, or customer data from multiple sources.
- Prior involvement in marketing technology or similar domains supporting data-driven customer decisions.
- Familiarity with Python or other backend programming languages alongside or instead of Java is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
The total annual cash compensation ranges from €132,000 to €191,385 EUR. This includes base salary, potential commission for eligible roles, and annual bonuses. Roles may also be eligible for HubSpot's equity incentive programs offering restricted stock units. Compensation packages are based on objective criteria including experience, skills, and qualifications.
HubSpot emphasizes both flexibility and connection—remote work is supported, but onboarding and key events will require periodic in-person attendance at regional offices. Accommodations for travel or other constraints are available upon request during hiring.
