Join the engineering transformation at CommSec as a Staff Software Engineer, driving the innovation of web applications and digital services for investors nationwide. This senior role emphasizes deep React expertise and full stack capabilities to create scalable, intuitive, and high-performance digital experiences. Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver robust end-to-end solutions and contribute directly to architectural design and coaching.
Responsibilities
Take charge of hands-on development, architect solutions, and mentor engineers to elevate engineering standards. Own the full software delivery lifecycle from design through deployment and continuous improvement. Create modern web platforms and solve complex technical challenges in a customer-facing setting.
About the Team
Work within the Digital & Customer Crew at CommSec, responsible for Australia’s leading online brokerage platform serving millions. Develop responsive micro-frontend experiences, engage with APIs and cloud-native services, and participate in a platform rebuild and modernization to enhance millions of users' online investing experiences. Employ full-cycle engineering practices, integrating DevSecOps, automated testing, monitoring, and AI-powered tools.
Who We're Looking For
- Experts in React development and UI architecture with a history of delivering scalable, performant web applications.
- Passionate about exceptional user experiences with solid skills in front-end architecture, accessibility, responsive design, performance, and maintainable code practices.
- Experienced leaders in front-end technical decision-making, reusable pattern definition, and setting engineering standards for large-scale web projects, with knowledge or interest in micro-frontend architectures.
- Familiarity with front-end interaction with REST APIs and comfortable with API contracts and generated clients.
- Strong full-stack experience, primarily React-focused; bonus points for C#/.NET experience or eagerness to grow backend skills supporting full product lifecycle ownership.
- Commitment to engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and performance optimization to produce secure, reliable, scalable systems.
- Collaborative mindset working closely with cross-functional teams to create outstanding technical solutions and customer outcomes.
Technical Skills
- Essential: React, TypeScript, design systems
- Architecture: Micro-frontends, Module Federation, component-based design patterns
- API: REST APIs, OpenAPI, code generation tools like Orval
- Testing & Quality: Vitest, Playwright
- CI/CD & Automation: GitHub Actions, TeamCity
- Observability Tools: OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk/Observe
- Backend Bonus: C# and .NET framework
- Other: Continuous learning mindset
