About the Role
Join Commonwealth Bank's dedicated team focusing on fraud and scam prevention platforms that protect millions of investors. As a Staff Software Engineer within the Customer Management & Protect - Fraud & Scams Squad, you'll be pivotal in creating secure, high-quality digital investing experiences through your expertise in .NET, AWS, and distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and end-to-end delivery of critical API and microservice architectures.
- Guide the design, development, deployment, and operation of scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native applications.
- Shape engineering standards and support continuous improvement across software delivery lifecycle, embracing "you build it, you run it" accountability.
- Drive architectural decisions influencing platform integration and cloud solutions within cross-functional teams.
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Proficient in designing and building applications using C#, .NET, and .NET Core frameworks.
- Strong experience in RESTful API development, microservices, backend services, and distributed system principles.
- Expertise in cloud technologies, especially AWS, with knowledge of deployment and operational best practices.
- Knowledge of observability tools including monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and performance tuning.
- Understanding of security principles such as authentication, authorization, secure API design, secrets management, and secure software delivery.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies like React and TypeScript is advantageous for full-stack contributions.
- Experience with databases including SQL, MSSQL, NoSQL and integration/persistence patterns.
- DevOps proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), Kubernetes, automation, and deployment methodologies.
- Strong engineering practices including automated testing, performance optimization, operational readiness, reliability, and ownership.
- Java knowledge is welcome if candidates are open to transitioning into .NET.

The Fraud & Scams Squad operates within the Digital & Customer Crew and CommSec Technology domain, developing platforms and controls critical to protecting customers from financial crime. Your work will directly support Australia's leading trading platform, CommSec, ensuring safe and trustworthy digital investment journeys.
