Role Overview

The global Payments - Treasury team at Whatnot is responsible for managing the financial operations behind all customer transactions, including payment processing, tax calculations, customs, refunds, and returns worldwide. This team supports both internal growth across international markets and innovative user transaction methods. Collaboration with other teams, such as Payments - Experience, and key company leaders is a critical part of the role.

The team aims to enhance infrastructure related to payment scaling, the breadth of payment options, fraud prevention, transaction modeling, and tax to facilitate a seamless international marketplace. Each team member owns major responsibilities within the domain and contributes expert insights to leadership discussions.

While there is flexibility to work remotely or from global hubs, candidates must reside within commuting distance of the Dublin, Ireland office due to expectations for in-person collaboration.

Candidate Profile

• At least eight years of experience developing scalable software systems serving millions of users.
• Strong user-centric product mindset with a keen eye for long-term technical solutions.
• Proven skills designing complex distributed systems powering large-scale applications.
• Experience owning technical roadmaps, identifying improvement areas, and leading cross-team initiatives.
• Ability to architect and build appropriate systems or products to advance business goals.
• Expertise in evaluating trade-offs involved in architectural and design decisions.
• Ability to facilitate collaboration across multiple groups, delegate ownership effectively, and support teammates.
• Mentorship skills and dedication to building diverse, inclusive, and supportive teams.
• Strong project ownership from conception through production and ongoing maintenance.
• Proven track record of delivering quality products and features quickly and iteratively toward overarching goals.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and self-direction.
• Willingness and ability to contribute to frontend development as needed.
• Quick adaptability to new technologies and frameworks.

Preferred but not required: Experience with payment systems, financial infrastructure, or international commerce and background in high-growth startups. Familiarity with multiple programming languages, especially Python, Elixir, and JavaScript, is a plus.
