About the Role
Join Unloan, an innovative and agile brand powered by the Commonwealth Bank, as a Staff Software Engineer. You will be instrumental in developing the digital home lending platform, working closely with the InLife Crew’s Core Banking Squad. The role focuses on building and refining systems that handle live lending experiences including repayments, redraw, and account servicing. This position demands excellent engineering skills, deep domain knowledge in banking and lending, and expertise in modern technologies such as TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js and GraphQL.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable, resilient software systems covering the full loan lifecycle — from lending and refinancing to ongoing servicing and management.
- Own technical strategy, architecture, and hands-on implementation within a build-it-own-it environment to ensure systems operate flawlessly during critical customer interactions.
- Mentor and guide the engineering team to uphold high standards of quality and drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Build resilient distributed systems that manage complex financial workflows and high-volume transactions with an emphasis on reliability and operational control.
- Modernise legacy platforms by transitioning to API-first, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures consistent with enterprise standards.
- Apply AI and automation responsibly to enhance engineering productivity and customer outcomes while adhering to security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate across teams to execute technical initiatives, establish architecture strategies and deliver scalable solutions amidst ambiguity and complexity.
Skills and Experience
- Proficient in backend development with Node.js and TypeScript, including GraphQL and REST API design and delivery.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, containerization (Docker), and infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with event-driven and distributed system architectures.
- Competence with DevOps tools and CI/CD processes including Git, GitHub Actions, and SonarQube.
- Knowledge of engineering quality and testing tools such as Jest, Playwright, and Storybook.
- Exposure to frontend frameworks including Next.js and React Native is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience or understanding of AI tools & frameworks like generative AI, large language models, agentic AI, GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Opencode.
- Strong systems mindset with focus on fintech production readiness, observability, reliability, and compliance.
