Grafana Labs powers Grafana Cloud, a managed observability platform trusted by over 10,000 organizations globally. Built on open source foundations and open standards, the platform offers interoperability across any technology stack, integrates AI with observability, and enables teams to gain unified insights and act on diverse data efficiently. The company operates fully remotely, with employees spread over 40+ countries, supported by notable investors.
Role Overview
As a Staff Product Manager focused on the OpenTelemetry Experience, you will lead the full lifecycle of user interaction—from workload instrumentation to delivering actionable telemetry in Grafana Cloud. Your goal is to simplify and trustably streamline how users adopt and manage OpenTelemetry data. You will design and refine cohesive onboarding and troubleshooting experiences for different instrumentation methods, including SDKs, automatic instrumentation agents like Beyla, and client-side OpenTelemetry Collectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strategy and roadmap encompassing the entire OpenTelemetry onboarding and telemetry quality improvement process in Grafana Cloud.
- Create intuitive, guided workflows for users and automated agents to choose, set up, and validate instrumentation effectively.
- Break down complexities and failure points, reducing setup abandonment and improving telemetry quality and reliability.
- Collaborate across multiple engineering and product teams to align on experience standards and success metrics.
- Utilize customer insights, telemetry data, and market trends to prioritize initiatives that maximize user activation and satisfaction.
- Partner with product marketing and go-to-market teams to shape the market narrative, produce technical materials, and drive adoption campaigns.
- Represent Grafana Labs within OpenTelemetry ecosystem discussions, contributing as appropriate.
- Integrate AI tools into your workflow to enhance customer research analysis, product development, and agent-led instrumentation experimentation.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years in product management, specifically with complex B2B tech products such as developer tools, observability platforms, or infrastructure software.
- Proven capability to lead cross-functional teams without direct managerial authority.
- In-depth understanding and hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry components like SDKs, OTLP protocols, collector pipelines, and semantic telemetry standards.
- Familiarity with instrumentation technologies, telemetry collectors, agents, and configuration workflows.
- Knowledge of software deployment challenges across Kubernetes, VMs, and cloud environments.
- Experience simplifying complex onboarding and troubleshooting processes into accessible user journeys.
- Strong track record of using data-driven insights and customer research to guide product decisions and deliver tangible outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills to influence a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders in a distributed remote environment.
Additional Advantages
- Contributions to the OpenTelemetry or open source observability communities.
- Background in automatic instrumentation, eBPF, or runtime instrumentation.
- Operational experience as an SRE, platform engineer, developer, or observability specialist.
- Experience developing product-led onboarding, configuration validation, or telemetry monitoring at scale.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position in the UK is GBP 117949 to GBP 141539, which may vary depending on experience and skills. All roles include Restricted Stock Units, providing shared ownership in Grafana Labs' growth. Compensation ranges vary by country; candidates outside the UK will receive market-specific pay discussions.
Work Culture and Environment
- 100% remote, inclusive global culture fostering collaboration and autonomy.
- A high-growth organization dedicated to innovation and transparent communication.
- An open-source rooted company with a supportive and career-focused environment.
- Annual leave policy with 30 days per year plus 3 mandatory company shutdown days.
- Inclusive equal opportunity employer, valuing diversity and equal representation.
Use of AI
AI tools are incorporated in recruitment and daily workflows to improve analysis, prototyping, content creation, and testing of agent-assisted instrumentation processes.
