Staff Engineer/Tech Lead - Agentic Payments (AI Commerce & Browser Automation)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Staff Engineer/Tech Lead responsible for pioneering agentic payments at Reap. As AI agents increasingly hold payment credentials and autonomously perform transactions, this emerging domain crosses many components of our existing infrastructure. You'll integrate agentic payment support into our current card and payments systems by collaborating closely with product and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement agentic payment features including card registration, spending controls, and automated checkout processes.
• Develop solutions for both standardized agentic-commerce protocols and custom checkout automation.
• Take full ownership of agentic payment features across different teams, including building and operating them in production environments.
• Contribute to defining and executing the agentic payments product roadmap, deciding priorities and delivering infrastructure accordingly.
• Work closely with product managers, company founders, and cross-functional teams to embed agentic capabilities effectively.

Qualifications

• 5 to 8+ years of backend engineering experience with significant API design expertise focused on clean, versioned, consumer-facing contracts.
• Proven ability to quickly understand and contribute to unfamiliar codebases, leveraging AI tools and modern development workflows for rapid delivery.
• Direct engagement with agentic-commerce technologies including agentic protocols, card-network programs, or browser automation frameworks either through development, research, or experimentation.
• Strong product intuition — capable of independently taking concepts from idea to production without explicit detailed specifications.
• Collaborative mindset with low ego and high flexibility, prioritizing teamwork and integration within existing teams.
• Excellent communication skills and self-sufficiency to thrive in a fully remote, async environment.

Preferred Experience

• Hands-on development or deep understanding of agentic-commerce protocols such as ACP, UCP, or AP2.
• Experience with card-network agentic programs like Visa Intelligent Commerce, Visa Trusted Agent Protocol, or Mastercard Agent Pay.
• Familiarity with browser-automation platforms such as Playwright, Puppeteer, or frameworks like browser-use, Notte, or Skyvern.
• Background in payments, card issuing, or fintech infrastructure systems.
• Interest in Web3 technologies, stablecoins, and the convergence of Web2 and Web3.
• Startup experience involving multi-disciplinary roles and cross-team collaboration.
